In preparation for the German round of the 2015 World Touring Car Championship that takes place on 16th of May, and in conjunction with the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, the WTCC boys took to the 15 mile combined circuit today to get familiar with the track.
Citroen’s Jose-Maria Lopez set fastest time of today’s running, with a time of 8’38.027, followed immediately by two of his Citroen teammates. Gabriele Tarquini’s Honda was fourth, 4.76 seconds behind Lopez, and the top five was rounded out by the fourth Citroen of Yvan Muller, 5.61 seconds back from Lopez.
Wildcard entry, and Ring Queen Sabine Schmitz set the thirteenth fastest time of the day, 23 seconds behind JML in her Munnich Motorsports prepared Chevrolet Cruze.
Two drivers tested in cars that wouldn’t be allowed in WTCC competition, Norbert Michelisz ran his laps in a SEAT Leon Supercopa car, while Mehdi Bennani was in a VLN-spec Audi TT. Michelisz didn’t want to risk wrecking his car before this weekends WTCC event at his home race in Hungary, and Bennani’s car is still being repaired after damage sustained during the Moroccan WTCC round two weeks ago. Damage from Marrakesh also prevented Tom Coronel from attending the test as well.

My sentiments exactly. With his performance sometimes it’s really tough to believe he’s only on his second season in a touring car.
